Watch Aimee Mann’s Anguished ‘Goose Snow Cone’ Video
Aimee Mann captures the anguishing experience of caring for a sick pet in the poignant new video for “Goose Snow Cone,” a track off her upcoming LP Mental Illness. The new album comes out March 31st.
In the video, Mann plays the dual role of singer and cat-sitter for a feline named Goose. After Goose’s owner returns home, Mann informs her that the cat hasn’t been eating, prompting a visit to the veterinarian.
While the cat awaits an unspecified operation, Goose’s owner then ponders life without her beloved pet as Mann’s touching acoustic ballad soundtracks the waiting. Thankfully, Goose emerges from the surgery healthy wearing a “cone of shame,” hence the song title.
Mann previously described Mental Illness, her first solo LP since 2012’s Charmer, as the “saddest, slowest, most acoustic, if-they’re-all-waltzes-so-be-it-record” she could write and plays on the popular belief that she generally makes “really depressing” music.
“I don’t know – people may have a different viewpoint – but that’s my own interpretation of the cliché about me,” Mann said. “I mean, calling it Mental Illness makes me laugh, because it is true, but it’s so blunt that it’s funny.”
