“Straight from Mexico, call her Quintana,” Travi$ Scott rhymed, kicking off his performance on Thursday (June 20) for the O Music Awards. He may have been rapping about south of the border, but he was performing high above Times Square. Joined by producer Mike Dean on the keys and guitar, Travis then moved onto his new single “Upper Echelon.”

The Houston newcomer has been making waves for his debut EP Owl Pharaoh and being named an XXL Freshman alongside the likes of Chief Keef and ScHoolboy Q and Trinidad James.

He’s also been able to accomplish what few young producers can: Produce multiple beats for Kanye West. Scott appears on Kanye’s Yeezus, credited for production on tracks like “New Slaves” and “Guilt Trip.” “I went to Paris super early,” Scott told MTV News of how he ended up on West’s monster album. “At one point it was just me, Kanye and Noah [in the studio], and that’s when he first introduced me to some of the [song] ideas. I was just around him a lot, especially for this album, curating sonics,” he added. “It’s like crazy memories.”

“Live Music Day” continues for a few more hours. Kat Dahlia also took the stage earlier. One of the most interesting acts is Andrew W.K’s attempt at breaking a new world record. The drummer has been at it as he tries for the Longest Drum Session in a Retail Store. Good luck Andrew!
