Tom Morello, Jon Batiste to Curate NYC Global Citizen Advocacy Concert

Prophets of Rage guitarist Tom Morello and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert's bandleader Jon Batiste will curate this year's Global Citizen: The World On Stage event. Global Citizen is a social action platform that partners with organizations to end extreme poverty and enacting policy change.

An impressive roster of speakers and musicians are slated to appear at the concert, including comedian Cecily Strong, actors Forest Whitaker, Belgium Prime Minister Charles Michel, Maltese Prime Minister Joseph Muscat. Regina Spektor, Pete Wentz, Stay Human, Aloe Blacc & Maya Jupiter, Moxie Raia, The Kenyan Boys Choir and Afghan rapper and anti-child marriage activist Sonita Alizadeh are also slated to perform alongside Morello and Batiste.

Paul Simon will also present the inaugural George Harrison Global Citizen Award to the late Beatle posthumously. Harrison's deep commitment to promoting world peace and ending poverty reflects the goals of the Global Citizen organization.

"When George rallied the music community to respond to a humanitarian crisis, he set an example that artists of all forms of expression have followed to this day," Harrison's widow Olivia said in a statement. Harrison will accept the award on behalf of her late husband with their son Dhani. "By using his individual talent in an attempt to help others, his legacy mirrors the goals and mission of the Global Citizen movement."

“It's an honor to be a part of the historic World on Stage event," Morello said in a statement. "Music has been, and will continue to be, an important component of the struggle for a more peaceful, just and humane planet. No one knew this better than the great George Harrison."

The event takes place September 22nd at New York University's Skirball Center for the Performing Arts.
