Thom Yorke Shares New Track ‘You Wouldn’t Like Me When I’m Angry’

Thom Yorke gave fans a gift on the day after Christmas: A new track titled ”You Wouldn’t Like Me When I’m Angry.” The song accompanied Yorke’s surprise and innovative new album Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes as the Radiohead frontman made that solo LP available on Bandcamp after three months exclusively on Bit Torrent. “You Wouldn’t Like Me…,” like In Rainbows, was offered up as a pay-what-you-want download.

“I can’t come when you call / I am not who you thought / You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry / My dark places / Just when you left / What should not just is,” Yorke sings according to lyrics he posted on Twitter, with the downbeat, contemplative track circling around the chorus “You’ve built this up.”

“You Wouldn’t Like Me When I’m Angry,” which takes its title from a phrase popularized by The Incredible Hulk, dates back to at least January 2013, when Yorke shared an early, “unfinished” version of the track during a 25-minute montage of loose Radiohead song stems and remixes that Yorke gathered for his Dazed Digital Mix. At the time, “You Wouldn’t Like Me…” appeared destined for Yorke’s Atoms for Peace side project, but nearly two years later he’s released the track under his own name.

While balancing solo endeavors like Tomorrow’s Modern Boxes, guitarist Jonny Greenwood’s score for Inherent Vice and drummer Philip Selway’s second solo LP Weatherhouse, Radiohead are also reportedly in the studio with longtime producer Nigel Godrich working on the follow-up to 2011′s The King of Limbs.
