Steven Tyler Readies Second Country Single ‘Red, White & You’

For his new country single, Steven Tyler is getting patriotic. “Red, White & You” is a nostalgic salute to American girls — he even name-checks Tom Petty in the first verse.

Set for release on January 22nd, the upbeat country-radio-ready anthem is the follow-up to “Love Is Your Name,” a more subdued, Celtic-tinged ballad that peaked in the Top 20 of Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart. Tyler, who is readying his debut solo album for Dot Records, co-wrote “Red, White & You” with Nathan Barlow, Levi Hummon and Jon Vella. Dann Huff, known for his work with artists from Keith Urban to Megadeth, produced with Tyler.

While the lyrics hit all of mainstream country’s buzz words — the state of Georgia, cut-off jeans and good ol’ boys’ “big machines,” a nod to Dot’s parent label — there are the signature Tyler yelps, asides and non sequiturs. At one point, he sings about “free fallin’ into your yum-yum,” shouts “sweet potato pie” and offers more than a few exclamations of “baby.” It’s vintage Tyler, albeit with a country flair.

The Aerosmith singer, who made a few concert appearances with his band Loving Mary last summer, will release his full-length solo record later this year.
