Snakes and Stones

“I am so inspired by color and creativity,” L’Wren Scott told Style.com last night at the A-list party she cohosted for London’s Serpentine Gallery—a.k.a. the U.K.’s party of the year. Scott’s recent inspirations include Gustav Klimt and David Hockney—considering her love of the fine arts, could she ever turn to painting? “No matter what I do,” she said, “I will always look to artists and architects as an inspiration. A perfect example is Sou Fujimoto.” The Japanese architect created this year’s temporary pavilion for the Serpentine—an elegant latticed steel structure. “I mean, if this doesn’t inspire, what could?”

Sarah Jessica Parker, Kate Moss, and Naomi Campbell were among the notables who came by to say hello. But despite an abundance of famous faces, a charge of electricity jolted through the crowd when Scott’s partner, Mick Jagger, showed up with Ronnie Wood and a couple of generations of Jaggers in tow—Bianca, Jade, and Georgia May, included. HRH Princess Beatrice, who was dressed in a body-skimming blue lace L’Wren Scott, said, “L’Wren is an incredibly modern woman, who designs for modern women. This dress is so comfortable, but structural, and I feel really right in it.”

Scott’s hourglass dresses did not go unappreciated by the likes of Ewan McGregor and Jeremy Irons. Lorne Michaels said, “Really, I am here for Wimbledon—can you believe Federer is out? But I’ve been friends with Mick for a long time, so I thought it would be good to drop by.” Michaels’ protégé, Jimmy Fallon, introduced Jake Bugg, who took the stage after a performance by Findlay—a one-two punch that Scott was particularly happy about. Tapping into Scott’s fear of the rain dampening not only her party but Glastonbury this weekend, where her boyfriend is headlining, Erdem Moralioglu said, “This is an amazing night, because for the first time, the weather cooperated. It’s London, and the sun is shining, and it’s dry. It couldn’t get better.”
