Rascal Flatts Announce Riot Tour 2015 With Opener Scotty McCreery
Bad news for country fans: Rascal Flatts’ club residency in Las Vegas, which launches on February 25th at the Hard Rock Hotel, will not be extended past its original closing date of March 14th.
Better news for country fans: after leaving the Las Vegas Strip, Rascal Flatts will head back to Nashville and start rehearsing for coast-to-coast summer shows. The Riot Tour kicks off May 29th in St. Louis, trading the cozy intimacy of the Vegas shows — which will feature scaled-back production and enough room for 4,000 concertgoers — for the super-sized spectacle provided by more than 30 amphitheaters and outdoor festivals. American Idol champ Scotty McCreery joins the tour as the Flatts’ opening act, with The Voice‘s Craig Wayne Boyd scheduled to open all nine shows of the band’s Vegas residency.
Dates for the summertime tour have yet to be announced, although a preliminary list of cities — including strongholds like Boston and Phoenix, as well as relatively new tour stops like Cozumel, Mexico — has already been released. (See below.)
Hitting the road two months after the Las Vegas shows won’t give Rascal Flatts much time to work on a follow-up to Rewind, the band’s chart-topping album from the second quarter of 2014. Boyd, however, is scheduled to release his major-label debut later this year, with a Number One single — “My Baby’s Got a Smile on Her Face,” produced by Blake Shelton — already under his belt. Scotty McCreery has been working on a new album, too, booking some sessions at a Nashville studio this month to begin tracking a back-to-basics country record that will focus on his southern roots and low, rumbling baritone.
