Prince, Rolling Stones Top Record Store Day Black Friday Lineup
Prince, the Rolling Stones, Jack White and Erykah Badu are among the numerous artists prepping exclusive vinyl releases for Record Store Day's annual Black Friday event, November 25th.
The late Prince will be honored with a new 12-inch picture disc featuring his 1992 single with the New Power Generation, "Sexy M.F." Meanwhile, the Rolling Stones will release their cover of Eddie Taylor's "Ride 'Em On Down" – also set to appear on their upcoming LP Blue and Lonesome – on a 10-inch record limited to 3,000 copies.
Former Record Store Day ambassador Jack White will re-release a limited edition 7-inch of the Raconteurs' "Steady, As She Goes" b/w "Store Bought Bones" featuring a reproduction of the group's backstage passes. And Badu will release her 2015 mixtape, But You Caint Use My Phone on clear vinyl. Other participating artists include the Prophets of Rage, who will issue a vinyl edition of their debut EP, The Party's Over, and Iggy Pop and the Stooges, who will release their 2005 live album Telluric Chaos as a double LP.
Record Store Day Black Friday will also feature several unique projects, including Amanda Palmer and Jherek Bischoff's Strung Out in Heaven, a six-track homage to David Bowie and Prince arranged for string quartet and voice, and featuring guests Neil Gaiman, Anna Calvi and John Cameron Mitchell. There will even be two releases geared towards both the ears and nose: Los Angeles punk outfit the Regrettes will share a marshmallow-scented 7-inch for their song "Marshmallow World," and South Park will deliver a holiday treat with Mr. Hankey's Christmas Classics, available for the first time on vinyl that is both brown and scented.
Various bands are also prepping live releases for RSD Black Friday, such as Eric Church, Ornette Coleman, Chet Baker, Billy Idol and Refused. Angel Olsen and Steve Gunn will appear on the A and B sides, respectively, of the sixth Live at Pickathon EP, an annual release from the Portland music festival.
Film fans will be able to pick up a vinyl edition of the classic Chinatown score, while Walt Disney Records will offer a special Star Wars 10-inch picture disc featuring Shag Kava's "Jabba Flow." The Force Awakens song was notably crafted by director J.J. Abrams and Hamilton's Lin-Manuel Miranda, and the release will also feature Rick Rubin's remix of the song featuring A-Trak.
