Kenna Plots Crowdfunded New LP ‘Songs for Flight,’ Charity Initiative
Ethiopian-American singer Kenna has announced he’ll release his new album Songs for Flight as part of a crowdfunding campaign that will also raise money for deserving causes around the world. With the project, which set a goal of $350,000 in the next six weeks, Kenna becomes the first One-for-One artist, meaning, as Kenna explains in his crowdfunding video, “Every time that you listen to the music I produce, buy tickets to my show, click ‘Like,’ buy, share anything that related to me, you knew it was funding change.”
As part of the One-for-One campaign, Kenna is offering his still-in-the-works new album in a variety of incentives-filled packages, from the basic $25 “Passenger” bundle to the $10,000 “Voyager” package, complete with the opportunity to have dinner with Kenna and attend the Songs of Flight recording sessions. Check out all the various options and learn more about the six-week initiative – which allows fans to donate to their choice of over 25 different charities – at Kenna’s official website.
“I feel like this is a way to empower my art to create change through the connection I have with my fans. The hope is that the music serves as a conduit for the good my fans and I want to see in the world,” Kenna said in a statement.
In addition to the crowdfunding campaign, Kenna is embarking on a brand-sponsored tour to visit Los Angeles, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Chennai, Moscow, Tel Aviv, Paris, London, New York, Haiti and Mexico City to shoot the music video for Songs for Flight‘s first single “Sleep When We Die.” At each stop of the September/October trek, fans are all invited to come out and participate in filming.
