Kanye West Brings Out Rihanna, Travis Scott at FYF Fest

Although Kanye West was a last-minute replacement at Los Angeles’ FYF Fest, the rapper still had some surprises in store for the festival as he welcomed both Rihanna and Travis Scott to the stage during his Saturday set. Rihanna joined the rapper on “FourFiveSeconds” and “All of the Lights” while Scott came out for a mini-set of his singles “Upper Echelon” and “Antidote.”

According to Billboard, West’s recruitment of Rihanna was an on-the-spot decision: She was reportedly just attending FYF Fest and in the vicinity of the stage when the rapper spotted her and handed her the microphone in the pit during “FourFiveSeconds.” After delivering the bridge from their joint single with Paul McCartney, Rihanna joined the rapper onstage for “All of the Lights” before exiting. “Make some noise for Rihanna in the crowd,” West told the FYF crowd.

West’s FYF Fest performance opened up with the Watch the Throne single “No Church in the Wild.” The selection was likely a nod to Frank Ocean, who sings that track’s chorus and was originally scheduled to headline FYF Fest before canceling just days before the festival due to a “scheduling conflict.” West was quickly added to fill in for Ocean on the bill.

As Entertainment Weekly notes, when FYF attendees first heard Ocean’s “No Church in the Wild” chorus to open West’s set, many thought the Channel Orange singer was also guesting at the festival, but it quickly became evident that Ocean wasn’t present. While West’s performance was packed with hits from throughout his catalog, the rapper refrained from playing anything from his upcoming LP –tentatively titled Swish – outside of the previously released single ”All Day.”
