Jay-Z Reveals Beyonce Feature On Magna Carta Holy Grail’s ‘Part II (On The Run)’

Jay-Z famously never writes down his lyrics, but luckily for fans—especially those who have Samsung Galaxy smartphones—he instituted new rules for the roll-out of his new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail, and wrote down all of the intricate wordplay that rides the beat of his new songs. On Thursday (June 27), he released the lyrics to “Part II (On the Run),” a musical sequel of sorts to 2003’s “’03 Bonnie & Clyde,” which features vocals from his other half, Beyoncé.

Much like their “outlaws as soulmates” ode did a decade ago, their latest collaboration delves into the fact that despite the perceived mismatch of their backgrounds–she a beautiful chanteuse and he a hardened rapper from the streets–the couple is and always will be as in love and meant for each other as ever. Hov also looks back on the naysayers who doubted his “potential” to be the trendsetting mogul that he is now while sharing that Bey, who was “down to ride til the very end,” knew all along.

“She fell in love with the bad guy/ The bad guy/ What you doing with them rap guys/ Them rap guys/ They ain’t see potential in me girl/ But you see it if it’s you and me against the world/ Then so be,” Jay raps, with words almost dripping with gratitude.

Introspection and reflection seem par for the course on Jay’s 12th studio LP as he also released the lyrics to MCHG’s “Oceans” on Wednesday (June 26). On the track, which features Frank Ocean, the Roc Nation Sports agent goes deep, possibly exploring how he’s metaphorically drowned in oceans of historic oppression, be it slavery or democracy.

“This water mixed my blood/ This water tells my story/ This water knows it all,” he raps, later adding, “Can’t believe they got a n—a to vote/ Democrat/ Nope … In trouble water I had to learn to float.”

Thus far, the lyrics to “Holy Grail,” “Heaven,” “Oceans” and “Part II (On the Run)” have been released ahead of the July 4 drop date for the project to Samsung users. If Jay keeps to pattern, fans will get the lyrics to six more songs before they finally hears the words they’ve been reading over the production of Swizz Beats, Pharrell Williams, Timbaland and Rick Rubin.
