Jay-Z Officially Drops Hyphen To Become Jay Z
By Sowmya Krishnamurthy
Jay-Z would now like to be called Jay Z? According to Billboard Editor Joe Levy, Hov has dropped the hyphen from his name officially. “Breaking: Jay Z has dropped the hyphen from his name, according to his label. I am not kidding. (Wish I was.) Copy editors: take note,” Levy tweeted yesterday.
Spin notes that Billboard has already begun to adopt Jigga’s presumed new stage name in its write-ups of him. Interestingly, he’s billed as “Jay Z” on iTunes, including for his new album Magna Carta Holy Grail, so perhaps this isn’t new news to Jay at all.
On a more personal note, fans recently learned of Jay-Z’s one-time rift with producer Timbaland. “Let me tell you about real friend. You fall out and then you make back up,” revealed Timbaland about having personal issues with Jay in an interview with Revolt TV. Timbo laments missing his friend’s 40th birthday and takes full responsibility for the issues. “I was wrong,” he admitted. They have since reconciled.
