Hear Sam Hunt’s Kid-Approved New Single ‘House Party’

Sam Hunt has an inner softie that comes out when asked about his brand-new single, “House Party.”

“The reason I wanted to put it out is, my friends who have little brothers or sisters, or kids of their own — that’s the one song that ages four to 12 like the best,” he tells Rolling Stone Country, admitting, “I like having that unbiased approval of a young child.”

Of course, the tune isn’t kids’ play. It’s about throwing a spirited soirée for two, with music pumped so loud that they “wake up all the neighbors, ’til the whole block hates us/And the cops show up, try to shut us down.” But with its EDM-laced, fist-pumping beat and feel-good lyrics, “House Party” is the kind of song that entices all ages to get out of their seats (or at least do a little head bobbing).

Co-written by Hunt, Zach Crowell and Jerry Flowers, “House Party” is the third single off the Georgia native’s debut album, Montevallo. It follows the million-selling, chart-topping radio releases, “Leave the Night On” and “Take Your Time.” Even though he’d occupied the country charts’ penthouse before with songs he penned for Kenny Chesney and Billy Currington, Hunt says the popularity of his own recordings is something hard to wrap his head around — and something he considers more of a family affair.

“Just last night, I went out to eat with guys from the band and the guys who are on the road with me, working hard. That’s what makes this a lot more special, even more than the success I had as a songwriter prior to [my record deal], because there are so many more people involved,” he relates. “So when we have these successes like ‘Leave the Night On’ and ‘Take Your Time’ going platinum, I’m able to celebrate with a group of people who feel like family.”
