Gwar to Tell Band’s History in ‘Let There Be Gwar’ Book

The bizarre, gory history of outlandish metal band Gwar will be told in an authorized new book titled Let There Be Gwar. The 350-page hardcover book will be stuffed with firsthand accounts of the group’s members plus never-before-seen photographs dating back to the mid-Eighties. The tome will also provide readers with an in-depth journey through the makings of a Gwar show, from production to performance to life backstage, Loudwire reports.

In addition, the book will also document the endless Kiss-like ephemera dedicated to Gwar, including posters, videos and comics. Let There Be Gwar was compiled by Bob Gorman and Roger Gastman. Gorman has been associated with Gwar’s Slave Pit Inc. since 1988 and began archiving the group’s history in 1997 with the intention of releasing it as a book. Let There Be Gwar is available to pre-order now through Gwar’s official merchandise shop. The first 150 copies of the book boasted the band members’ autographs, but those copies have sold out.

After the death of Gwar frontman Dave Brockie, AKA Oderus Urungus, the costumed heavy metal act has run into legal troubles with the singer’s father. After bidding Brockie farewell with a traditional Viking funeral, the band were sued by Brockie’s father for allegedly stealing the singer’s ashes, musical equipment and artwork, as well as producing phony documents in order to continue using Brockie’s likeness on merchandise.

“We did not steal Dave Brockie’s ashes, or anything else that belonged to him,” the band wrote in a statement. “In fact, all of the items mentioned in the article, including Dave’s ashes, have been available to his attorneys for weeks. At all times, and under very trying circumstances, we have acted in good faith to honor the wishes of our dear friend. Dave left no will or instructions for final arrangements, and so we have done the best we could to honor what we believe Dave Brockie would have wanted.”
