Dodgers, Nationals Blame Taylor Swift for Suspended Baseball Game

Friday night’s baseball game between the Washington Nationals and Los Angeles Dodgers was suspended after a “malfunction” continually knocked out Nationals Park’s lighting. It was the first game back in Washington, D.C. after this week’s All-Star Game, so naturally players blamed the power outage on the person who last used the stadium during the Midsummer Classic break: Taylor Swift.

“@taylorswift13 your concert used up all the electricity in DC.. thanks for helping start the 2nd half with a bang,” Dodgers outfielder and Home Run Derby hero Joc Pederson tweeted to the 1989 singer, who performed at Nationals Park on July 13th and 14th. “Well who was the last one to use Nationals Park last? Taylor Swift.. I blame her for the power outs tonight. We now have #BadBlood,” Nationals pitcher Max Schezer tweeted after Friday’s game was suspended after five innings with the Nats up 3-2. Dodgers pitcher Brett Anderson added, “I like the theory that the lights are Taylor Swift’s fault.”

While the baseball players all jokingly blamed Swift for the faulty lighting, as ABC News points out, Swift suffered her own technical malfunctions during her first Washington, D.C. show on Monday. At that concert, a piece of the machinery that allows Swift to hover over the crowd seized, stranding the singer in the air. “I’ll just be here, forever, stuck up here, unless I choose to jump down,” Swift told the crowd.

After the Dodgers-Nationals game was suspended, technicians discovered that a faulty circuit breaker – and not Taylor Swift – was to blame for the outages. “It was replaced shortly after midnight and the lights were tested throughout the night with no additional outages,” the Nationals said in a statement “While we believe we have identified and corrected the issue.”

The game was resumed Saturday afternoon with the Nationals defeating the Dodgers 5-3.
