Dead Weather to Return With New Album ‘Dodge & Burn’
The Dead Weather will return in September with their long-promised third full-length, Dodge & Burn. The band has issued two singles over the past few years, with the record containing remixed versions of all four of those songs (A sides: “Open Up (That’s Enough)” and “Buzzkill(er)”), as well as eight yet-to-be-announced new original songs.
Because the group’s members, which count White and Kills frontwoman Alison Mosshart among their ranks, have obligations to other projects, they have no plans on touring in support of the record. Earlier this year, White performed a short run of acoustic gigs, including one in Alaska, and his representatives said that that would be the last time he would be performing live for a “long period.”
Although the group has yet to announce the album’s track list, it revealed that a limited-edition LP version of the record will be available as part of a “Vault” subscription from White’s label Third Man. The release, titled “Vault Package #25,” will feature Dodge & Burn on “inclement weather” vinyl, which means it will be colored yellow with black “debris” melted in. It will be housed in a special sleeve with alternate cover art and “sandpaper flames,” and will contain a poster.
The package also will contain a seven-inch containing the new tunes “I Feel Love (Every Million Miles)”, backed with “Cop and Go,” which will also arrive on “inclement weather” vinyl. Finally, the package will feature a previously released custom deck of playing cards with new packaging; the cards sport the band members’ faces on the king, queen, jack and joker. Subscriptions for this package end on July 31st.
“Platinum Vault Members” will also receive a top-tier subscription to the streaming service Tidal, at a reduced price of $5 a month. White is a co-owner of the service, along with Jay Z, Beyonce and several other chart-topping musicians, and has claimed in a Third Man Q&A with fans that the streaming service does not “devalue musicians” but supports them.
