Chris Martin, Ed Sheeran, Willie Nelson Join Stevie Wonder Tribute Concert
Coldplay’s Chris Martin, Ed Sheeran, Willie Nelson, Usher and Janelle Monáe have all signed on to take part in Stevie Wonder: Songs in the Key of Life – An All-Star Grammy Salute. The live concert will take place February 10th at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre, while the CBS broadcast airs February 16th. Tickets for the tribute concert are on sale now at AXS.com.
Last month, it was revealed that the Grammys would honor Wonder with a celebration similar to the network’s 2014 star-studded music special The Beatles: The Night That Changed America. More performers will be announced for the Songs in the Key of Life concert, with each artist picking a song from the 25-time Grammy winner’s extensive songbook to cover on the Nokia Theatre stage.
Most of the artists involved seems to have some connection to Wonder over the course of their careers: Martin and Wonder recently appeared on BBC Music’s all-star cover of the Beach Boys’ “God Only Knows,” while Wonder and Nelson similarly sang on the original 1985 “We Are the World.” Wonder also contributed to Usher’s 2004 album Confessions.
“Stevie Wonder is an absolute legend and I am so honored to be a part of this very special night,” Sheeran said in a statement.
In addition to the Wonder performance, plan on seeing the British singer on television often in the coming weeks: Sheeran was among the first performers announced for the 57th annual Grammy Awards, and on January 24th he’ll help resurrect VH1 Storytellers with a live concert in Dublin, Ireland.
