Cash Money Records has become a household name thanks to artists like Lil Wayne, Juvenile, Drake and Nicki Minaj and on August 22, Cash Money founders Bryan “Birdman” Williams and Ronald “Slim” Williams will be honored at the Broadcast Music, Inc R&B/Hip Hop Awards.
The brothers will be recognized as BMI icons for their creative and innovative contributions to R&B and hip-hop over the past twenty years. The independent label was founded in 1991 and has since grown to break records and sell over 500 million songs worldwide. Other BMI honorees in the past have included Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Al Green, James Brown and many more.
The Cash Money family, lead by the Williams brothers, has prospered due to their highly successful roster and their dynamic team leadership. Slim acknowledged the honor saying, “This recognition from BMI is one of the greatest honors we’ve ever received. It’s something that my brother and I would’ve never been able to imagine at the genesis of our label.”
The BMI R&B Hip Hop Awards will feature an all-star musical tribute to the Cash Money founders at the Manhattan Center in New York City on August 22.
